Stepping Into the Vocal Batcave

The Inception of a Voice Acting Career

LOG: You've had quite a prolific career in voice acting thus far, including roles on Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Kim Possible, and Gargoyles. What first drew you to voice acting?

DIEDRICH BADER: I always wanted to do it. Then I got lucky.

A History with The Dark Knight

LOG: You're voicing Batman/Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Batman: Brave & The Bold cartoon, but fans may not realize this isn't your first time on a Batman show. Are you yourself a DC Comics fan at all? Do you have any particular enjoyment in playing these types of comic book-based characters?

DB: I have been on various incarnations of Batman but this is my favorite. Not just because I'm Batman, our show has a sense of humor and is very fluid and colorful.

Becoming The Bat: Preparation and Personal Touch

The Research Behind the Role

Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, More Stars Who've Played Batman ...

LOG: What research, if any, did you conduct while preparing to tackle the role of Batman? What do you feel that you've brought to the role that hasn't been there in past incarnations?

DB: My research includes a lot of vigilante activity and wearing a cowl around the house. I think I bring my own sense of humor to the party.

A Fan Favorite Batman

LOG: Do you consider yourself a Batman fan? If so, do you have a favorite incarnation of Batman?

DB: Adam West is still my favorite. And me.

Reactions and Reflections

A Look at The Dark Knight

LOG: Did you see the Dark Knight movie this summer? What were your reactions to the film?

Christian Bale, Michael Keaton, More Stars Who've Played Batman ...

DB: I did not, but I heard it was the feel-good movie of the year.

Family Matters in Gotham

LOG: As a parent, I'm thankful for this new show with the lighter tone. Did you consider your son at all when taking this role?

DB: I am so excited to show my kids this Batman. My son is his biggest fan and I think he may just burst into flame when it actually airs. He is the reason I wanted to do this. I wanted him to have a show he could watch at 5.

A Message to the Fans

LOG: Do you have anything you'd like to say to the parents, fans, and readers at LegionsofGotham.org regarding your new role as Batman?

DB: I would like parents who are fans to know that we respect the Batman legacy and character in a show that everyone can watch. My 3 year old is in my lap now so it's hard to type with one hand.
